Woman dies during Alcatraz swim race

The San Francisco medical examiner's office this morning identified a woman who was found dead Sunday in the San Francisco Bay as Sara Lowes.

Lowes, 51, of Houston, was found in the waters of the San Francisco Bay and pronounced dead at 9:32 a.m., according to the San Francisco medical examiner's office.

The Alcatraz Challenge Aquathlon, a one-and-a-half mile swim from Alcatraz, was held Sunday morning and started at 8 a.m. Authorities could not confirm whether Lowes was a registered participant in the race.
