San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has announced that John Rahaim
will fill the position of city planning director.
The position was previously filled by Dean Macris, who served
as director for 16 years and will stay on as part of the Newsom
administration as a special advisor on planning and development.
Rahaim has been the planning director for Seattle since August
2003.
"We found John after an exhaustive nationwide search,"
said Newsom in a prepared statement. "He stands out because
he comes to us from a city that is facing many of the same development
issues that San Francisco faces and he has tackled them with fresh
ideas and cutting-edge innovations."
Rahaim will take over the position beginning January 2008.
