The California Supreme Court has decided to review six cases
addressing the constitutionality of state marriage law, the court
reported this afternoon.
The cases were brought by same-sex couples seeking the right
to marry.
In October, California Attorney General Bill Lockyer won a ruling
from the state Court of Appeal upholding laws that require marriage
to be between a man and a woman. Even though he won at that level,
Lockyer asked the state's high court to review the ruling, saying
it would bring "certainty, uniformity and finality'' to the
issue.
