Firefighters fighting a blaze in a San Francisco restaurant
discovered two bodies this morning, according to a fire department
spokeswoman.
The single-alarm fire burned the Star of India restaurant, which
is located at 2127 Polk St.
The kitchen was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived,
San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.
The loft area above the kitchen, where the bodies were found,
was compromised when firefighters arrived. Two firefighters suffered
minor injuries. One firefighter's foot fell through the floor
of the loft and they had to leave until the area could be reinforced.
One of the people who died has been confirmed to be a male, Talmadge
said. Details regarding the other person have not been released.
The fire reported around 6 a.m. was under control shortly after
it began, Talmadge said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage estimates
have not been made available.
