SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) - Someone placed a device
made to look like a bomb at the federal building in United Nations
Plaza this morning, San Francisco police said.
Lt. Heinz Hofmann said building workers found the
small, cylindrical device near an employee exit and called police
around 10 a.m.
The bomb squad used what they call a disrupter to
open the device, causing what sounded like a small explosion around
10:30 a.m.
The device is now on the way to a crime lab for
analysis, Hofmann said.
Federal building employees were not evacuated but
asked to stay away from windows during the incident.
At least four city blocks in the area were closed
during the investigation. Streets were being re-opened by 11 a.m.
