Firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers today are
escorting a fundraising relay up the Peninsula today to benefit
a group that helps burn victims and their families.
The Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation plans to collect nearly $100,000,
raised with the help of 17 fire departments, according the foundation's
spokeswoman, Ashley Erdman.
The charity's 19th annual relay, which started at Moffett Field
this morning and ends at the San Francisco Fire Department at
19th and Folsom streets tonight, funds the foundation's burn survivor
assistance programs.
The charity hosts a summer camp program for more than 110 children
with burn injuries, a back-to-school program for survivors and
a support group for survivors and family members.
