China's top political adviser signaled enhanced bilateral relations
with the United States during a meeting today with Senator Dianne
Feinstein and Mayor Gavin Newsom.
Jia Qinglin, chair of the Chinese People's Political Consultative
Conference (CPPCC), said Sino-US history shows the relationship
will improve for both countries with a long-term strategic view
on issues of common concern.
Mutual trust and cooperation will be enhanced when sensitive
questions are properly addressed, Qinglin added.
Feinstein pointed to sister city relationship between San Francisco
and Shanghai as an active promotion of bilateral relations, and
called for sister city collaboration between additional cities.
Feinstein and Newsom lead a delegation visiting China through
November 26 to December 1, and will attend the 25th anniversary
celebration of the establishment of the sister city relationship
between San Francisco and Shanghai.
