The third annual Amgen Tour of California traded the heartbreaking
hills of San Francisco for the friendlier flats of Palo Alto in
its time trial prologue Sunday.
Before thousands of enthusiastic and engaged fans, Swiss rider
Fabian Cancellara showed off the form that twice earned him the
world time trial title by holding off Great Britain's Bradley
Wiggins and American Tyler Farrar.
Team CSC's Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland
showed why he's the two-time world time trial champ,
beating 131 other riders to take the time trial prologue.
The UK's Bradley Wiggins of Team High Road cruised into second
place,
four seconds behind Cancellara.
Santa Rosa's Levi Leipheimer, last year's winner, settled for
fourth.
The tour continues Monday at 11 a.m with a 97-mile Stage One
trial from Sausalito to Santa Rosa. The 650-mile race ends Sunday
at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles.
