Pakistan gifted Vice President Dick Cheney an unusual welcome
present: former Taliban defense minister, Mullah Obaidullah -
the most important Taliban operative to be captured since 2001.

Twister death toll rises to 17 - CNN
A raging storm system that spread over Alabama, Georgia, and
Missouri killed at least 17 people, many more injured and homeless.
Five students were found dead under the ruins of Enterprise High
School.

New Orleans files $77 billion claim against Army Corps of Engineers

Corps have six months to pay up or the next administration will
be sued for the amount. Each one of the city's 450, 000 residents
will receive $170,000. Pre-Hurricane Katrina, the average New
Orleans home cost around $180,000.

California National Guard troops called up for deployment - LA
Times
There is strong opposition for additional deployment of US forces
to Iraq, from both democrats and republicans. Despite the opposition,
Bush is proceeding with his deployment plan calling on 800 California
National Guard soldiers to gear up for deployment.
A National Guard spokesman says there are no guarantees that
soldiers won't be deployed for a second, or even a third time.
