An intense manhunt is underway in Tiburon for an armed man suspected
of carjacking a taxicab earlier this morning, according to Marin
County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Taylor.
Authorities are searching for a Hispanic male between 17 and
25 years old, possibly with a goatee. He was last seen wearing
shorts and a black T-shirt, Taylor said.
Residents in the area have been notified through a telephone
warning system, in place for major weather events, to be alert
for a dangerous man armed with a gun, according to Taylor.
The taxi driver picked up a man in San Francisco and drove him
to San Rafael where the man robbed the driver at gunpoint. The
suspect took the driver's money and his taxicab, according to
Taylor.
A sheriff's deputy spotted the suspect driving the cab on southbound
U.S. Highway 101. The deputy attempted to pull the cab over, but
the suspect continued to drive, Taylor said.
The man was last seen when he finally pulled onto a vegetated
median on Tiburon Boulevard near Strawberry drive and ran from
the cab.
Taylor said the sheriff's office, Tiburon police, Mill Valley
police, California Highway Patrol and Belvedere police are assisting
in the manhunt.
