SAN JOSE (BCN) - San Jose City Councilman Ken Yeager this
afternoon called on Mayor Ron Gonzales to resign following reports
of Gonzales' arrest. Yeager, who was elected to the county Board
of Supervisors earlier this month and will leave the council at
the end of the year, said Gonzales' legal problems would be a
significant distraction at City Hall if he remains on the job.
"I would strongly urge the mayor to step down,'' Yeager
said.

"These charges will certainly be a distraction to him and
to the city administration.''
Gonzales' spokesman David Vossbrink released a statement confirming
that Gonzales has been indicted on six counts but said the mayor
has not seen the indictment and would have no further comment
other than to maintain his innocence.
Gonzales and Joe Guerra, his budget and policy director, posted
bail this morning pending a court hearing on Monday.
"The mayor has said he has done nothing wrong. He intends
to finish out his term,'' Vossbrink said in response to Yeager's
call for the mayor to resign.
