SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) -- Traffic and public transit in San Francisco's Union Square may be affected tonight by a rally protesting the policies of the Bush administration, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

The national group World Can't Wait will hold a rally tonight in Union Square to coincide with President Bush's State of the Union address. The rally, which begins at 5 p.m., may be followed by a march to Powell and Market streets.

Post Street and Powell Street near Union Square are expected to be completely closed to traffic. The north side traffic lane of Geary Street near the square is expected to be closed, as is the west side traffic lane of Stockton Street near the square, according to the MTA.

The following Muni lines may also be affected by the rally: No. 2 Clement, No. 3 Jackson, No. 4 Sutter, No. 9X San Bruno Express, No. 30 Stockton, No. 38 Geary, No. 38L Geary Limited, and No. 45 Union-Stockton. The Powell Street cable car lines may also be affected.

More information on Muni transit service can be found on the Muni Web site at sfmuni.com.
