SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) -- The San Francisco Police Department
is growing and will continue to grow in fiscal year 2006-2007
if San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's proposed budget for fiscal
year 2006-2007 gives any indication.
Forty new officers graduated from the San Francisco Police Academy
on Friday and are already on the street, according to police spokesman
Dewayne Tully.
Another 46 officers are expected to graduate from the police
academy in November. And an additional 50 recruits have been hired
and will start at the police academy later this month, Tully said.
The mayor's proposed budget allocates enough money to hire 250
new police officers during fiscal year 2006-2007.
The department is always looking for new recruits, Tully said.
The starting salary of a San Francisco police officer is $64,347.
