Washington, D.C. - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi
released the following statement today on the citizenship workshop
she held in San Francisco to provide assistance to individuals
who are eligible to apply to become American citizens:
"Today, in collaboration with immigrant service organizations,
I hosted hundreds of San Francisco's hard-working immigrants who
took the next step toward citizenship, embracing the opportunity
it offers to those who have worked hard and played by the rules
to have a greater say and a stronger voice in determining our
country's future.
"For most immigrants, becoming a United States' citizen
is the culmination of many years of hard work and the fulfillment
of the American dream. In an effort to help turn that dream into
reality for the many eligible immigrants, Democrats across the
country are holding workshops this summer to help put legal residents
on the path to citizenship.
"America is constantly invigorated by the optimism, energy,
and patriotism of those who come to our shores in hope of a better
future. As we assist individuals navigate the path to citizenship,
we are reminded everyday in San Francisco that our beautiful diversity
is our greatest strength."
