One of the four people hurt in an industrial accident at a construction
site in San Francisco's South of Market district this morning
suffered "fairly serious" injuries after a piece of
scaffolding failed and they fell between 8 and 12 feet, according
to San Francisco fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge.
Three other workers sustained minor injuries that nonetheless
warranted hospitalization, Talmadge said.
The accident took place around 10:45 a.m. at the One Rincon Hill
apartment towers project, which is in the early stages of construction
at 425 First St.
All work at the site has been halted for the rest of the day
and the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration
has been notified, Talmadge said.
The incident marked the first time the San Francisco Fire Department
has been called to this construction site, she added. Talmadge
said supervisors at the site told her there had been only minor
accidents at the site so far.
Two of the injured workers are subcontractors with Bovis and
the other two are subcontractors for Webcor, she said.
