San Francisco Democratic Party details endorsement results

From the San Francisco Democratic Party

August 23, 2006

The members of San Francisco's Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC) met Monday night to discuss their endorsements for the upcoming November election.

The Committee voted on candidates up for election and re-election for the School Board, College Board, District Supervisor positions, the Public Defender's office, the Assessor-Recorder's office, and Local and State-wide initiatives.

Public Defender Jeff Adachi and Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting both are running unopposed and both were endorsed unanimously by acclamation.

Jaynry Mak won the crucial endorsement in the District 4 Supervisor race. District 4 is the only seat that does not have an incumbent as District 4 Supervisor Fiona Ma is running for State Assembly and won the Democratic Primary in June.

Incumbent Supervisors Michela Alioto-Pier, Daly, Dufty, and Maxwell were also endorsed for re-election to the Board of Supervisors.

The SF Democratic Party adopted the California Democratic Party positions with the exception of proposition 83 and 89. The SF Democratic Party endorsed Proposition 89, the Clean Money initiative while the State Party took no position. On Wednesday, August 23, the SF Democratic Party will reconsider Proposition 83.

"When I ran for the SF Democratic Party Chair, I vowed to make electing Phil Angelides Governor our priority" said Scott Wiener "but our local endorsements are also an important priority. We will work hard to ensure the election of our local Democratic leaders and to pass pro-labor, pro-environment, and pro-tenant legislation on the November ballot. We are also resolute in our determination to re-defeat Proposition 85, the so-called Parental notification initiative."
