Supe Hogs score 5 in the first,
paving the way for season first win
Special to the Sentinel
October 4, 2005
Fort Scott Ball Field, San Francisco - A big first inning
put the Boss Hogs ahead early and that is the way that it stayed
as 'The Hogs' defeated Barclays Global 9-4 in the first game of
the season. Sending eight players to the plate in the top of the
first, the Hogs scored 5 runs and never looked back against an
over matched Barclays Global team.
Barclays Global threatened in the final inning with 2 players
on and a smash to left, but it all came to a sudden end with a
great catch by defensive replacement Judson True. The shot was
hit high and deep into the San Francisco sky, but True had a beat
on it and made a fantastic catch to close the game.
"I knew that I had to catch it and I am just happy I had
my glove in the right place," a modest True explained after
the game.
The Hogs played solid defense throughout the game, including
an unusual put out at third by Left-Center fielder John Gavin
in the 5th.
Sean Elsbernd launched his first home run of the season with
a blast to left.
"I got the pitch I was looking for and had a good swing,"
Elsbernd said.
The Hogs had solid hitting up and down the line-up. Angela 'V-Neck'
Calvillo, Boris 'Big Daddy' Delepine Cassandra 'C-Squared' Costello
all contributed to offensive barrage with big hits for the team
that has yet to have an organized practice.
Boe Hayward pitched 6 solid innings for his first win of the
season.
"The march of the Hogs has begun and we are looking forward
to our next game," said Hayward. "At this point, we
are taking it one game at a time."
Hayward's arm appeared to be in fine shape after his first start
since the team's last game in the Spring.
"All in all, I am happy with the performance. We were a
little sloppy, but this team is going to be fine and will improve
as the season moves forward.
"Just wait till you see us in our uniforms," exclaimed
left fielder, uniform designer and team mom Sarah Ballard.
The B.O.S Hogs take on Independent Team #8 on Columbus Day (10/10)
at 9:30 am at Fort Scott Field #2.
Hog fans can be happy with the win and can look forward to an
exciting season.
'Big Daddy' Delepine was happy with the win and told reporters
after the game, "This is the first of many. I am just looking
forward to having my son see me play and be a part of the great
game of softball."
Stats:
HR - Elsbernd (1)
W - Hayward (1-0)
Notes:
The B.O.S Hogs is the Board of Supervisors softball team.
Comprised of players from 9 supervisorial districts, the team
has found a unity that is not too common in City Hall. The B.O.S
Hogs will be taking on the MO' Betta Blues, a team comprised of
Mayor's office staffers on Monday, November 28th. The game is
already predicted to be a certain sell out.
