The Laborers' International Union of North American (LIUNA),
one of the fastest-growing unions in the country and in California,
have endorsed Assemblymember Leland Yee over Lou Papan and Mike
Nevin for the 8th State Senate District.
"I am honored to receive this major endorsement from the
Laborers," said Yee. "In the Senate, I look forward
to continuing our fight for working men and women and pushing
for safer job sites, good wages and benefits."
"As representatives of 65,000 working men and women in the
State of California, we join Assemblymember Yee in representing
the interest of this great State and are willing to do our part
in securing a brighter future for all Californians," said
Rocco Davis of LIUNA. "On behalf of the LIUNA, it is our
honor to endorse his candidacy for the 8th Senate District in
the June 2006 election."
"Laborers are essential to our community and our economy,"
said Yee. "They build everything from skyscrapers to tunnels
and make buildings safe by removing hazardous materials like asbestos
and lead. They also serve the public in hospitals and government
throughout California."
Last month, Yee overwhelmingly outpaced his competitors in the
latest fundraising reporting period, raising over $138,000 more
than Nevin and $343,000 more than Lou Papan. At the time, Yee
had $581,059.19 on hand, whereas Nevin had $360,218.58 and Papan
had $64,968.64.
The 8th Senate District includes San Francisco and San Mateo counties.
