Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Leland Yee, D-San Francisco/Daly City,
announced this week that a member of the Jefferson Elementary
School board has been named the 2006 12th Assembly District Woman
of the Year.
Daly City resident Annette Hipona serves as an elected member
on a district-wide parent advisory committee, is a member of the
Peninsula Library System board and serves as an officer and fundraiser
for the Friends of the Daly City Library, Yee's office reported.
"Whether it is protecting pedestrians from dangerous intersections
or volunteering to help students in the classroom, Annette is
always leading and empowering others,'' Yee said in a statement.
"Annette does not shy away from hard work, but instead steps
up to the plate whenever our children and community need her leadership.''
In addition to serving on multiple boards, Hipona also organized
a citywide parking summit to address the parking crisis in Daly
City, Yee's office reported.
The state Assembly will honor Hipona and other women at a ceremony
in the Assembly chambers of the state Capitol on March 20 at 11
a.m.
