A vehicle pursuit through San Francisco city streets this morning ended in a crash in Golden Gate Park that sent three suspects to a nearby hospital, police Sgt. Steve Mannina said.
Police were first called at about 3 a.m. to the area of Seventh Avenue and Hugo Street, Mannina said. A witness reported hearing glass breaking and seeing someone trying to break into a car. The witness described the vehicle as a gray Toyota pickup truck, Mannina said.
Arriving officers found that the suspects in the break-in had already left the area and broadcast the vehicle description, according to Mannina.
An off-duty officer leaving his shift at about 3:20 a.m. then saw the pickup at Fourth Avenue and Lincoln Way and notified on-duty officers, Mannina said.
By the time police arrived, the suspect vehicle had driven to Seventh Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Police attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful, and the vehicle attempted to turn onto Traverse Drive, Mannina said.
The pickup failed to make the turn and crashed into a tree.
The three occupants in the vehicle were transported to San Francisco General Hospital, Mannina said. Two sustained life-threatening injuries and the other non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Just because a person wears a uniform & sports a badge & carries a gun doesn’t mean that they are exempt from being law abiding citizens. In fact if anyone of the tax paying citizens who make comments that encourage the sfpd to keep up their brutal behavior have no idea how much more dangerous it is to have a reckless cop patrolling our city streets. Their are cops who have struggled with drugs & alcohol, anger & domestic violence and lied to cover up the truth because they made a mistake that caused someone harm or their life. How much do you wanna bet the SFPD has it’s own set of “Hoover Files?”

sadly that crash did not just threaten life… today (4/22/08) the “29 year old female” passenger of that truck was taken off life support at sfgh…. i cant understand how anything short of kidnapping or murder could require that the police chase a vehicle on the streets of San Francisco! I am so appalled and ashamed of the reckless disregard for human life that i have seen in our police dept. in the past few years. im also sick of being reminded of how unsafe this City is because of the unethical manner in which we allow our police force to “serve and protect”. i for one feel no safer at night knowing that the police with all the resources it has at its disposal chooses to engage in gestapo style attacks .. i’ve been the victim of burglary before, i would gladly be kept in poverty in exchange for a police force that were trained and dedicated to keeping the streets safe. what kind of society are we to not hold the police accountable for their actions? i have always been proud to be tell ppl im from san francisco…but that pride is being eaten up by shame…and disgust…
