The good folks at the San Francisco Department of Elections today released information on where and how political junkies can get their election night results fix.
In years past, San Francisco political junkies who want instant elections returns information, convene in North Light Court at City Hall where election results are tabulated and displayed on a giant monitor. This option is still available and we’ll likely see the usual suspects rubbing shoulders, interpreting results, and blogging their thoughts on the results in real time.
So what’s different this year? Well, for those political junkies who would prefer to blog from home, or from a bar, election results information will also be broadcast on the City’s SFGTV channel accessible online as well as over cable TV.

Up until 5-6 years ago SF City Hall was “the” place to be on Election night. Hundreds and hundreds would gather there to see the results. It often went into the wee hours of the morning so we would “retire” to Stars on nearby Redwood Ally for a bite to eat and assorted liquid libations. Then back to the Dept of Elections for (hopefully) more results. Everyone came through…. Democrats, Republicans, (no Greens back then to speak of), gadflies, flies, hacks, hopefuls, wishful thinkers. It was a joyful occasion. You’d get to see everyone (most fondly, others perhaps not so fondly).
Nowadays, sadly, (I presume with the advent of the Internet), it is Deader than a Doornail. This past Tuesday, June 8, I popped in at 9-ish, and there were 4 people there. Woe is me.
I miss the good ol’ days. I miss the Election results amid hundreds of on-lookers. I miss the delicious and savory burgers (and liquids) at Stars.
Maybe I’ll try to re-kindle the days of yore for this November’s election?

Is it already time to get arrested again?
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been arrested for good reason on election night. That said, it was for a good cause too and I don’t foresee that tomorrow night.
Those who wish to have a beer with da dawg after the polls close come to Temple Bar. We’ll be celebrating Hope Johnson’s brilliant campaign for DCCC and keeping our fingers crossed. Sayyyy? 6pm … too early? 7pm? … polls still open? … when’s sunset? … 8pm? … first results 8:45pm …
Anytime at Temple Bar on Polk
