Community organizer James Keys announced today his endorsements in the IRV race to succeed termed out District 6 Supervisor Chris Daly.
“I have made a decision as to the IRV of the District 6 race,” Keys, a progressive candidate endorsed by Daly, said in a statement. “There are concerns regarding the District 6 seat being won by a progressive candidate and I have had discussions with some of the candidates regarding this. In watching each of the campaigns I see Ms. (Jane) Kim and Ms. (Debra) Walker’s campaign as the two other strongest campaigns. It is for this reason that I would endorse both campaigns as number 2.”
Keys said progressive voters will decide whether Kim or Walker are ranked second or third, adding the number two ranked choice will have more impact on the final outcome than the third choice.
Asked whether discussions between Keys and the Kim and Walker campaigns has resulted in Kim or Walker committing to a ranked choice endorsement, Keys said Walker told Keys via text message she “is not interested in making deals with multiple candidates,” but is willing to talk to Keys.
Keys said endorsement discussions with Kim have been scheduled for tomorrow.

@Greg, it all depends on who hustles in the final stretch.

My prediction:
Debra Walker pulls off the win.
Kim comes in second.
Sparks a distant third.
Keys 4th.
Meko 5th.
Elaine Zamora 6th
Annaconda 7th
The last three are minor candidates, not even second tier, so the uncertainty about the order is much higher.
More certain is that Walker and Kim will be the top tier candidates (and I do think Walker pulls it off), with Sparks and Keys in the second tier.

Gee Greg,
You never noticed my sense of humor? Not kidding on any of these predictions though. Ask Luke, I had Daly tending his own bar a year ago as a prediction. Granted, I had him in East Bay with Michael O’Connor as a partner but I got the new pursuit right.
The uglier the D-6 contest get’s amongst the ‘top’ candidates the better it is for ‘no drama Meko’ who’s the best candidate anyway. I honestly thought the guy didn’t have a prayer but the cat fight at the top of the Prog pride opens a crease (no pun intended) for Jim.

Spare parts anyone?
Body parts that is. As a political fan with a backstage pass I’ve watched hundreds of these candidates and you know what the rarest thing you see is?
A second candidacy. The norm is that losing one of these things in which you’ve been treated as a ‘front-runner’ is enough to kill their desire for public office.
I want to bet you a few things.
First, Elaine Zamora will move from the most dangerous block in the Tenderloin within a month after her loss.
Second, if Jane Kim loses (she’s working hard on itl) she’ll leave SF and take a job in D.C..
Third, Debra Walker will lose badly and concentrate on serving on the D Triple C until she’s 100 years old. She’ll never run for any higher office.
Fourth, Theresa Sparks will finish no higher than 5th place and never run for public office again. On the up side, she’ll continue to be given jobs by Downtown in payment for her work siphoning off votes from the Progressive Community in her work with Alice B. Toklas and so forth.
Fifth, Jim Meko will win the election in what will be (to everyone but me) a tremendous upset and serve 8 solid years as the reasoned voice of D-6.
And, Giants will win the pennant.
