This just in. The campaign headquarters for the David Chiu for mayor campaign was ransacked by thieves last eve.
In addition to thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen from the office located at 1800 Van Ness Ave, the thieves rifled through confidential campaign materials.
“Late Sunday night, the David Chiu for Mayor campaign headquarters at Van Ness and Clay was vandalized and burglarized,” said David Chiu campaign manager Nicole Derse. ” Thousands of dollars of equipment were stolen, and the intruders rooted through confidential campaign materials – removing them from drawers and leaving them scattered on the floor.”
“If this was a politically motivated attempt to distract the Chiu for Mayor campaign on the eve of Election Day, it has failed miserably,” Derse added. “David and our team of volunteers are as determined as ever to get our message out to San Franciscans in these last hours before voters go to the polls. This matter has been referred to the SFPD for a full investigation, and we are confident that they will get to the bottom of it. In the meantime, we will get back to work.”
Police are currently onsite and dusting for prints, the campaign said.

Overheard a few moments ago re the Chiu office ransacking: “It was probably Ed Lee’s people stealing more campaign slogans.”

Politically motivated? As if David Chiu’s campaign has any relevancy.
When we had a break-in at The Buck, I didn’t issue a press release. Nicole Derse is desperate.
