A city of Santa Clara spokeswoman said today that negotiations between the city and the San Francisco 49ers over a proposed 68,000-seat stadium project remain on track despite the passage of Proposition G by San Francisco voters on Tuesday.
Deputy City Manager Carol McCarthy said city officials still hope to bring a proposed deal before the Santa Clara City Council in time for the matter to be placed before city voters in November’s election.
“We’re still meeting with them regularly,” McCarthy said. “Progress is still being made.”
The 49ers owners, Denise DeBartolo York and her husband John York, have been working towards building a new stadium in Santa Clara, next to the Six Flags Great America amusement park and near the team’s training facility, since November 2006. However the project faces some significant obstacles, including opposition to it by the company that owns Great America.
While a nonbonding advisory measure, Proposition G contains provisions for building a new stadium could replace aging Candlestick Park as the home of the 49ers.

Quoted in the aftermath of the election, this corrupt self-serving political hack made the following statement, “..do we want special interests to decide the outcome of elections, or do we want to level the playing field …”. At the same time he was celebrating the passage of Prop G thanks to $3.4 million of special interest money. What a dupicitous smirking sack of ****.
Plans are already underway to reintroduce the issue in November. Maybe this time the MIA liberals and progressives will finally listen to the folks in the community and get off their butts. ACORN, SFLC, etc. are probably too coopted and committed to the corporate power structure to be of any further use or relevance to peoples needs and issues.
In November VOTE YES on whatever the offspring of F is.

Proposition G is about the Pacific Heights Mafia and filling the coffers of political thugs in San Francisco. The 49ers have made it clear they do not want to be at Candlestick Point and have chosen Santa Clara. Imagine the thugs using Lennar and spending over $5 million of slush money – and not making any impact. The proponents of Prop F – will revamp and have another Measure come November, 2008. As always the Prop will be initiated by the community to serve the better needs of those that live in the community that deserve – respect.
