From San Francisco Animal Care and Control

San Francisco –San Francisco Animal Care & Control is asking the public for help to find the person – or persons – responsible for stabbing to death a seven-month-old puppy in foster care with Grateful Dogs Rescue.
The puppy – named Pogo – was being exercised by his foster parent at Ocean Beach in San Francisco at Sunset on July 22. He disappeared behind a sand dune and wasn’t seen again until his body was discovered dumped in an unincorporated area of the Bayview on the morning of July 29. Pogo had been brutally stabbed to death.
Pogo was a friendly, trusting pit bull puppy who had been taken from Animal Care & Control – SF’s open-door animal shelter – by Grateful Dogs Rescue. He had a genetic defect that required the amputation of one hind leg. The surgery to remove the leg was partially donated by San Francisco Veterinary Specialists – Pogo had fully recovered and was expected to lead a long and normal life. Grateful Dogs Rescue is one of the most active animal rescue groups working with Animal Care & Control. Their volunteers have taken and re-homed hundreds of needy dogs from the shelter.
Pogo was a brindle pit bull puppy with a white blaze, white around his nose and a white chest. He weighed approximately 40 pounds, was missing his right rear leg and was wearing a red collar when last seen.

A $2000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator has been established by Grateful Dogs Rescue and The Friends of SF Animal Care & Control. I must say that, it is sickening to hear about someone to take a puppy that was rescued, just to murder it. I hope this scum is found.
It is very sad to hear about a response to the death of an animal, you have someone trying to push their campaign.
There is a time and place for such political moves. This is not one of them.

I love you like my little brother but if you honestly think your former aide John Avalos has a chance to win in moderate District 11 you have grossly miscalulated. The cold reality, Supervisor, is that John possess neither the financial ability or credentials to harness a victory in this race.
Supervisor, you know as well as I do that my campaign has collected about $35,000 in private contributions and received over $40,000 in city matching funds. I have over $75,000 cash on hand and expect to collect the balance of $140,000 allowable in this race within two weeks, those figures collectively far surpass John’s war chest and just about equal the other main contender in this race. For the record, I was the fifth top fundraiser citywide, John only raised $15,000 in private contributions, his mistatement in listing city matching funds as contributions on his 460 FPPC disclosures caused the SF Examiner to list him in the top five, when in reality John was in the lowest tier citywide in that category of political strength.
As to signature gathering, I spent ten days on the task and consider the 387 signatures I personally gathered (223 valid) a fair result. For you to deduce the viability of a campaign based on half-truths and outright disinformation does not bode well for our future working relationship. Moreover, Supervisor Daly who appointed you arbiter of electibility? In a democracy the people decide, although politicians like yourself have an important say, the privacy of the voting booth is sacred and it is simply not your place to decide the fate of District 11, let John Avalos stand on his own as a candidate.
