Just when political news couldn’t get any hotter, Chronicle scoop de la scoop artists M&R reported today gubernatorial hopeful Gavin Newsom has red-carded Eric Jaye.
“There was a fundamental difference in how to run the campaign,” Jaye told the spinmeisters.
Of course, Jaye won’t return our calls for comment as we’ve dedicated much commentary on his, shall we say, creative Joseph Goebbels Karl Rove style propaganda?
What is clear, Eric Jaye’s campaign style is soooo 2007, and Newsom, who is behind Jerry Brown in the polls, has not been able to raise much in the way of serious campaign funds, prompting insider speculation Newsom’s gubernatorial campaign is DOA.
Instead, and this has got to make Jerry Brown laugh, Newsom is hanging on to Gary South, who M&R glowingly describe as a “top strategist and adviser to former Gov. Gray Davis.” You know, the guy who got recalled.
Word has it, Jaye will now push attack dogs Aaron Peskin and Chris Daly to run against Newsom. (Chuckle).

Ignore the Jaye behind the curtain,
Really, this is huge. Jaye’s really smart. He copied enough of my ideas to get Gavin elected supervisor and Mayor. I’m not sure how much further Gavin can get without Jaye’s army of …
For once I’m not only clueless but can’t even imagine what’s going on over on the other side. Only conflict I can recall these guys had was on a Public Safety issue a couple of years back when Jaye took on a client (cops, fire?) on some issue that was opposite the Gavin battle plan cause Eric had them as a client too. Maybe Eric just got too divided.
I mean, shit, the guy showed up a couple of weeks ago at a CA10 forum for candidates for Tauscher’s seat (vote Hampton please) … he shows up to watch Anthony Woods’ style and Woods is saying that Jaye has little to do with his campaign (“He’s done some mailers.”) …
Mondo Grossman says Eric has to run the whole show or he gets in fights with people. That’s what happened with Jack Davis in the 2003 campaign against Gonzalez. Davis hates Jaye for that. It has to do more with testosterone and greed. Eric just couldn’t stand South having any input at all. Don’t fret for him. Jaye will keep his other clients.”
More later,

The voters of the state are catching onto the fact that Mayor Gavin Newsom has more hype and flash than practical administrative ability. Eric Jaye’s style of PR did not help to create an alternative image, but in fact reinforced it.
However, it’s a big stretch to compare Eric Jaye to the Nazi war criminal Joseph Goebbels, as this article does.
Let’s keep some common sense in commenting on politics.
