A 17-year-old boy died at an area hospital after being shot Sunday in Bayview-Hunters Point District, San Francisco police said.
The shooting occurred in the area of Silver and Revere avenues at about 11:40 a.m. Tauvares Wooten of San Francisco had exited a store in the area when multiple shots were fired, said Sgt. Steve Mannina.
Wooten ran to a nearby residence and sought help from acquaintances, Mannina said. Emergency personnel then arrived in the area and transported Wooten to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mannina said the recently implemented Shotspotter system was effective in helping police respond to the scene of the shooting and locate evidence.
The system, which was installed in 1.3 square miles of the Bayview neighborhood, uses sensors to detect gunfire at a range of one to two miles, according to city officials.
“Shotspotter worked very well and in this case helped us find the location of the crime scene and seize physical evidence that we may not have been able to see without the Shotspotter technology,” said Mannina.
No arrests have been made and investigators did not immediately release a suspect description.
