From the campaign to elect Derek Cressman to California Secretary of State
June 19, 2013
Derek Cressman was joined by his family and 20 community supporters in Sacramento, Tuesday, to officially announced his candidacy for Secretary of State in 2014.
“I am running for Secretary of State to make elections count for Californians,” Cressman said. “We need real leadership to limit the role corporations and big-moneyed special interests play in our elections.”
As a good government advocate for the past 18 years with non-partisan organizations Common Cause and the Public Interest Research Groups, Derek Cressman said he offers the experience needed in the Office of Secretary of State.
Cressman’s priorities as Secretary of State include challenging Citizens United and limiting money in politics, modernizing California’s voter registration and small business registration systems to reduce bureaucratic barriers to voting and enterprise, and upgrading voter guides to offer Californians real information on candidates and ballot measures.
“Derek’s not just another career politician looking to move up one rung on the ladder,” said Michael B. Keegan, President of People For the American Way. “He is not indebted to special interests and will fight tirelessly for fair and transparent elections.”
Cressman has chosen San Francisco based 50+1 Strategies, led by Nicole Derse and Addisu Demissie, to run his campaign. Political consultant Parke Skelton will serve as a Senior Advisor to Cressman’s campaign.
“Derek will be running a truly grassroots campaign across California, engaging voters in their communities and online about their vision for our democracy and our state,” Derse said.
Cressman will be updating information on his campaign regularly at his website www.derekcressman.com.
